Paper Flower Box & Mini Cards

Wow!  September 1st.....?!  So much going on this month!!  First, there's a new challenge over at Stampin' Celebration today!!  I loved the photos Rochelle put together for us!

Here is what I was inspired to create:

Who wouldn't love to receive a box full of fun little 3x3 cards and envelopes?!  This would make a great teacher, neighbor or hostess gift.

Don't you love this flower?  I've been wanting to try these paper flowers and finally did!  You can download a pdf of the paper flower tutorial here.  They are so easy (4 simple steps) and look so elegant!

So, now that you know how to make the flower, let's talk about the box!  I wanted something similar to the Fancy Favor Box but not as deep.  I started out with a  piece of cardstock measuring 4.5 x 11.5".  I used my Simply Scored tool and scored it at 1.5" 5", 6.5" and 10".  I then turned it and scored it once at 1.5".  I cut the center bottom flap and cut off one of the corners as well.  Once it's all scored and cut, it should look like this:

I used my bone folder to get a good crease and decorated the front of the box.  I folded it together and adhered it with Sticky Strip.  I added a 1" wide handle after it was assembled.  The 3x3 cards and envelopes fit perfectly inside!  If you make one, I'd love to hear about it!

Sometimes you just gotta scraplift....

I was looking through my July/August issue of Creating Keepsakes magazine the other day and found a scrapbook layout on page 27 by Jen Papadimitriou that I knew I wanted to "scraplift."  This page came together so quickly -- I just love when that happens! Here it is:

I had several photos of my son and his baseball teammates on the beach.  I knew a neutral background with some pops of color would be perfect for these photos!  Have I said this enough yet -- I LOVE MDS!  Digital scrapbooking has really helped me to get lots of pages done--quickly!  And, with the MDS Sale being extended until September 14th, I'm trying to get as much done as I can!  Then, I can have them all printed at once at 31% off!  Yahoooooo!!

Have you checked out the new downloads from yesterday?  Lots of goodies that I can't wait to play with!  Click here to see the pdf of this week's downloads.

Also, if you haven't tried My Digital Studio 2 yet, what are you waiting for?!  Visit my online store to download your free 30-day trial.  I even posted a video yesterday on my Facebook Page - for those of you that are new to MDS - showing you how to make a scrapbook page using one of the templates that's included in the free download.  Here's the video:

Go easy on me..... a videographer I'm not.....  lol!  (If you area having problems viewing it, you can click here to watch it on You Tube.

Don't forget to check out this month's Spooktacular Offer!  You'll get an awesome Halloween Project Kit when you purchase the Starter Kit!  Fun, fun!  (Hurry, offer ends Friday!!)  PLUS, if you're interested in purchasing the MDS software, you can choose that plus some downloads for your Starter Kit!!  (How perfect is that?!)

Holly Berry Bouquet Gift Basket Tutorial

I love making these little gift baskets.  They're great to hold treats, baked goods, gift cards, etc. for friends, neighbors and teachers.  We made these at the Holiday Giftacular Class.  What fun!

Products Used:
Paper:  Chocolate Chip (12x12), Holly Berry Bouquet DSP, Very Vanilla, Pear Pizzazz
Stamps:  Easy Events
Ink:  Chocolate Chip, Real Red & Old Olive Markers
Punches:  Circle, Scallop Circle
Other:  Real Red Ribbon, Crop-a-dile

For the tag I used the stamp set Easy Events.  This is such a versatile set and comes with 8 different stamps.

Easy Events
#123225 (clear mount) $24.95
#116958 (wood mount) $32.95

Wondering how to make these fun little baskets?  Keep reading....  :)

Gift Basket Tutorial
  1. Take a sheet of 12 x 12 card stock and score at 4" and 8".  Turn 90 degrees and score again at 4" and 8".  Fold at score lines.
  2. Take 2 sheets of DSP and cut into 3.75 x 3.75" squares.
  3. Take 8 of the squares and cut them in half diagonally.  You should end up with 16 triangles.
  4. Glue all of the squares on both sides of the card stock to create the pattern you like on the basket.
  5. Now the tricky part...  Pinch the 2 middle squares together creating a doubled triangle with the corner piece.  Use a bone folder to score and crease the corners at a diagonal.  Do this for all 4 corners.
  6. Use the crop-a-dile to punch small holes in all of the diagonal corners.  You'll be punching through 2 layers of card stock at a time.
  7. Thread the ribbon through the holes, pull it tightly together and make your bow.  Add a cute tag if desired!
I hope that wasn't too confusing!!  The hardest part is getting those corner folds - once you get that down it's easy!!  Our new Simply Scored tool makes the scoring a breeze!!  Happy crafting!  I'd love to hear how yours turns out!  :)
